Maillard Grill is a new steak restaurant in Republik Damansara Heights that offers butter aged steaks, a unique method of aging steaks that is more cost-effective for both the restaurant and customers. The name "Maillard Grill" is inspired by the Maillard reaction.

A Caesar salad is
To begin, we ordered a Caesar Salad (RM32) that was prepared with eggs, pecorino romano cheese, anchovies, and duck lardon. I appreciated the traditional approach they took in making the salad, and enjoyed the added flair of having the cheese shaved in front of us. In terms of taste, it was refreshing, light, and had a savory flavor from the cheese.

Drinks from Tickets KL
I chose the Watermelon Steak (RM28) after seeing it being cooked on the grill when I arrived at Maillard Grill. It had a smoky-sweet flavor with a hint of acidity from the tomatoes and pesto, which I found to be very enjoyable. If you're planning on eating a lot of meat, starting with a lighter dish like this would be a good idea.
Risotto made with barley
The staff at Maillard Grill spoke highly of the Barley Risotto dish, which costs RM32. It is a variation of risotto that is perceived to be healthier, made with pumpkin, oven-dried tomatoes, and pesto. However, it is not as healthy as it may seem, as the barley is generously coated in leek fondue. This dish offers a nice balance of savory and sweet flavors, with the sweetness coming from the pumpkin. Jien liked this dish more than the writer did.
Striploin that has been aged with butter
We chose a 300gm butter-aged striploin that had been aged with butter for 30 days. It was cooked using a Mibrasa grill known for creating a great char and precise temperature control for a perfect cook. Our steak was delicious and it was my first time trying butter-aged beef, as I usually prefer dry-aged beef for a richer flavor profile.
As predicted, the striploin steak priced at RM60 per 100g was moist and sufficiently tender. It has a more subdued beef flavor compared to dry-aged cuts, making it a good choice for those who prefer a less intense bovine taste. However, I personally still prefer dry-aged meats over butter-aged ones because they offer a beef profile similar to wet-aged cuts.
Fries that have been cooked three
Pureed spinach with a creamy texture
The triple-cooked fries at this place are popular, but my friend and I thought they were just okay. They were too crunchy for my taste and not as soft or fluffy in the middle because they had lost a lot of moisture during frying. I preferred the creamed baby spinach as a side dish instead.

I preferred the Beef Wellington at Maillard Grill more than the butter-aged striploin, which costs RM260 per serving. The dish includes grilled vegetables and truffle au jus as accompaniments. The Beef Wellington is made with Sher Wagyu tenderloin and is covered in a generous amount of truffle duxelles and spinach before being wrapped in pastry.
This is the place to go if you want a delicious Beef Wellington.
The meal was very tasty. It wasn't the traditional Beef Wellington, but I think it's good to try something new. The truffle au jus wasn't really needed because the Wellington already had enough flavor on its own. I found that adding the jus made the dish too salty for my liking.
Log made from bananas
I did not choose the Milky Way cocktail because I do not like glitter in my drinks.
The banana log at Maillard Grill is reminiscent of a banana split, but with a more upscale twist. It is served with dried banana skin on top, which surprisingly complements the dish well. The restaurant offers a variety of delicious steaks and has a wide selection of sides and starters to choose from. It is recommended to make a reservation in advance to ensure you have a great dining experience.
Atmosphere: 7/10 Cost: 6.5/10 Quality of Food: 7/10 (no pork) Recommendation: Give the Beef Wellington a try. If you prefer a tender, juicy steak without a strong beef flavor, you might enjoy the butter-aged steaks at Maillard Grill.
