Exploring the Irresistible Flavors of Blue Boy Vegetarian Char Kuay Teow: A Meat-Free Delight

I can still recall the first time I went to Blue Boy Mansion's vegetarian food court. It was in 2008 and I was with Jien, looking for a tasty char kuay teow that didn't contain any meat, lard, cockles, or prawns.

I was blown away by the vegetarian char kuay teow dish. It has consistently impressed me every time I have tried it at Blue Boy Mansion. I am always amazed at how delicious a meatless plate of noodles can be.

For almost twenty years, a kind uncle has been frying large amounts of char kuay teow and other fried dishes. He learned this skill from a char kuay teow expert when he was only 13 years old. This Indian uncle is fluent in Cantonese and mentions that he has become too exhausted to cook for open houses and events like he used to do in the past.

I have only tried the char kuay teow at this vegetarian food court with my old coworkers. We enjoyed coming here whenever we had the opportunity to drive out. Every time, I always choose to order a large portion.

You have the option to choose whether you want your char kuay teow with or without egg, and the dish is presented on a banana leaf to enhance the smell. It includes oyster mushrooms and mock meat slices for added texture, with the mock meat being fried until crispy similar to lap cheong in a traditional char kuay teow.

When you take a bite of this dish, you'll taste perfectly cooked flat rice noodles with a delicious charred flavor from the wok. The noodles are seasoned well and have a fluffy texture, with an added kick of spice from the chili paste. Additionally, the beansprouts provide a nice crunch that enhances the overall experience of eating char kuay teow.

The large plate of char kuay teow is priced at RM7.50, which is a great deal given the generous portion size and the skill of the uncle who makes it. It's definitely worth trying if you find yourself in the area!

The atmosphere of the restaurant was rated 5.5 out of 10, the prices were rated 7 out of 10, and the vegetarian food was rated 8 out of 10. Overall, the reviewer was impressed by the delicious taste of the vegetarian char kuay teow dish they tried.

The dish Char Kuay Teow can be found at the Blue Boy Vegetarian Centre located on Jalan Tong Shin in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur with the postal code 50200.
