KGB Bangsar believes that there’s no time to waste on a subpar burger. They offer burgers influenced by American burger restaurants, and they have recently added delicious, crispy chicken wings to their menu as well. This establishment continues to be one of our top choices for burgers in the area.
“This place is almost like paradise for burger lovers.”
KGB, also known as Killer Gourmet Burgers, has been consistently successful since they first opened their doors in a half shop lot in Bangsar around 4 years ago. It remains one of our top choices for burgers. The founders of KGB are Steven and Joe Yi.
They made the decision to leave their jobs in order to dedicate all of their time to the burger restaurant. It took them half a year to perfect the recipes. Those who love burgers will recognize that the menu is influenced by well-known American burger chains such as In’n’Out and Shake Shack. I think it’s fantastic that people no longer have to travel long distances just to enjoy a good burger (not that I’ve ever done that myself).
Start with trying The Shack’s classic cheeseburger, which features a beef patty that is smashed on the griddle and placed on their special bun with American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and their unique ‘Shack’ sauce. This cheeseburger is incredibly tasty, with a crispy patty that is juicy inside. Each bite releases flavorful beef juices, while the cheese adds creaminess and the vegetables provide a refreshing burst of flavor. The bun deserves a special mention for its role in completing the delicious burger.
All the food at KGB is prepared on-site. Their beef is of high quality and freshly ground every day, with a good balance of fat and lean meat to ensure juicy burgers, even when cooked well. The buns are also made on-site and are stamped with the ‘KGB’ logo using a hot brand to remind customers where they are dining. KGB uses the ‘smash’ method to cook their burgers, where a ball of meat is pressed down on the griddle to create a crispy crust. They are able to cook burgers to medium rare if desired.
The special bun made in-house by the restaurant is similar to a brioche or potato bun – it is soft and chewy, but also sturdy enough to hold up against the juices from the burger. It is currently my preferred bun choice.
If you’re looking for something different, you might want to try the Spiked Shack burger, which includes spicy Shack sauce and crunchy beef bacon on a regular Shack burger. Another option is the Bash burger, which comes with Provolone cheese, caramelized onions, and a surprising crunch from cornflakes. The combination of flavors and textures in these burgers is truly unique and delicious.
They also offer a chicken dish called the Tornado, priced at RM15.90, which consists of a crispy chicken patty coated in Parmesan cheese, served with onion rings and a flavorful wasabi mayonnaise. If you’re still hungry, try the Kimchi and Bulgogi Fries, made with thick cut potatoes topped with spicy Kimchi and slices of Beef Bulgogi. It’s a rich and indulgent side dish. If you prefer regular fries, they have that option as well.
Without much fanfare, they introduced a new line of chicken and buffalo wings that pleasantly surprised us. There are four different flavors available, but our favorite by far is the Golden Wings. These wings are coated in a savory salted duck egg sauce and topped with slices of pickled jalapeno. The combination of flavors will surely make your taste buds tingle with delight. Fans of salted duck egg will particularly enjoy these wings with an Asian twist, as they offer a unique blend of salty, sour, and spicy flavors.
Atomic Nashville offers a one-of-a-kind spicy experience that may not be suitable for those who can’t handle heat. Despite the intense flavor, it is still enjoyable. The KGB burgers are highly praised, with attention to detail and a good balance of flavors and textures. The prices are reasonable considering the upscale locations. Their Golden Wings Fried Chicken has even been recognized as one of the top choices in Malaysia. Don’t miss the upcoming Fried Chicken Festival in November 2017.
